About Me

It was at the age of 7 when I first stood exposed in a big 5 area in Zimbabwe. I absorbed my surroundings as my father edged us closer, on foot, to 2 white rhino. It was etched into my mind - a calling that I would answer decades later.

I grew up on the coast of Durban, KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. It was here that my journey into the wilder areas of Africa would begin. Thanks to great mentors I was able to add experience to passion.

My early days as a safari guide saw me learning through trial and error - often escaping situations that could have left these pages unwritten. Encounters with everything from black rhinos, charging lions, wild chimpanzees and forest elephants forced me to hone my skills.

I went on to become a specialist walking and canoeing guide in 3 major regions in Africa. I have been involved in community, conservation, research and tourism projects across the continent. My journey has taken me from the pristine wildlife areas of South Africa to the gorilla filled jungles of Congo and the mighty banks of the Zambezi and Luangwa rivers in Zambia. I merge a science based focus with a passion for exploration and photography enabling me to lead specialist safaris under my own company, Parker Private Safaris.

It was through listening to great conservationists around bush fires and under starlit skies that led me to find this connection to nature. I have helped to train safari guides in major parks to honour the mentorship I received.

I hope to do justice to those people I have met and the animals we are trying to protect through sharing my journey with you.
